Spangenberg

Spangenberg is located in the "GrimmHeimat Nordhessen" in a side valley of the Fulda, 35 km southeast of Kassel.
The place is part of the “Melsunger Land” tourism region and is also the center of the ARS NATURA art hiking
region. The Spangenberg old town is one of the most beautiful medieval half-timbered ensembles in Hesse.
The half-timbered houses from over five centuries stand side by side here. Winding and narrow streets,
romantically playful corners and richly decorated beams take the visitor back to tranquil times long past.
There is an astonishing structural unity on the market square. The oldest house in Spangenberg is also located
here. The fountain in the middle of Spangenberg's market square is reminiscent of Kuno and Else, after whom
Spangenberg is called the "Liebenbachstadt". Remains of the city wall with three defensive towers still surround
the old town today. The Spangenbergers are happy when visitors park their cars or bicycles or interrupt their hike to visit the castle
and old town with the colorful half-timbered ensemble, stop at an inn or decide to stay a few days to absorb a
little more of what is happening Small town life or the village atmosphere in one of the twelve districts.
