fascinating history of Fritzlar. Here is a short excursion into the history of the cathedral and imperial city of Fritzlar: The city traces its founding back to St. Boniface, who felled the Chatti sanctuary, the Dona Oak, in 723.
From its wood he built a church dedicated to Saint Peter and founded a monastery. Located at the intersection
of important roads and provided with a palatinate by Charlemagne, Fritzlar became a preferred place of
residence for German kings and emperors. They brought Fritzlar into the focus of imperial politics until the
end of the 11th century. In 919, the Saxon Duke Heinrich was made king in Fritzlar. Art-historical buildings, ancient pavement, medieval alleys, an imprint of past centuries - this is how the city
presents itself. Would like more? We are looking forward to your visit!
