Seligenstadt - experience history up close

Impressive half-timbered houses, a historic basilica and lots of life in the old town streets

Seligenstadt is a historic and lively city on the Main, in the middle of the vibrant Rhine-Main area. A separate
motorway junction with the A3 federal motorway ensures very good transport connections. Bicycle and hiking trails,
some directly along the banks of the Main, also enable a sporty journey. The city, which has more than 20,000 inhabitants, has a good infrastructure with many retailers, supermarkets,
service providers and restaurants. There are two breweries on site, the private brewery “Glaab” and the home
brewery “Kleines Brauhaus”. Seligenstadt likes to celebrate! Numerous festivals, which are always well attended, offer special features and
invite you to socialize. Seligenstadt retailers regularly open their shops at the same time - often throughout the
weekend and into the evening. Small streets, dreamy corners, colorful half-timbered houses and impressive sights from different eras
document the eventful history of the idyllic gem on the Main. On this site, where the Romans built a fort in
100 AD, Einhard, Charlemagne's biographer, began building a Carolingian basilica around 830, which is still
the city's landmark today. Einhard's founding led to the development of a flourishing Benedictine monastery with
a picturesque convent garden. Crafts and trade allowed Seligenstadt to flourish in the Middle Ages. The result is a lovely, historic old town,
with numerous, carefully restored half-timbered houses giving it a very special character. Let yourself be enchanted by the charm of Einhardstadt, which is home to 177 registered cultural monuments,
and follow in the footsteps of over 1,900 years of city history. Historical discovery trips of different types and durations can be arranged and booked individually via the
Tourist Information Office.
