Cadolzburg

West of Nuremberg, in the middle of Rangau, lies the picturesque Cadolzburg market. The townscape is
characterized by the mighty medieval Hohenzollern Castle, which gave the town its name. In front of the castle
there is a romantic market square with half-timbered houses from the 17th century. Winding streets around the
castle complex invite you to take a historical tour. Before you start a stroll through Cadolzburg, you should climb the 143 steps of the observation tower, the
so-called “Pencil” from 1893. At the top you have a fantastic view of the town and the surrounding area of the
greater Nuremberg-Fürth-Erlangen area. From the observation tower you can reach the historic market square
with the beautiful half-timbered buildings via the upper gate, the “Brusela”. The black and white painting on the
mighty gate is reminiscent of the rule of the Hohenzollerns in Cadolzburg. Via the Protestant Margrave Church with the typical pulpit altar you reach the impressive old town hall from 1486.
Today the “Cadolzburg Historical Museum” is housed here. A visit to the museum is worth it. The modern
exhibition in the lavishly restored half-timbered building clearly presents, among other things, medieval
architecture, half-timbering and monument preservation. (www.museum-cadolzburg.de)
